Resistant” more often that not, mainly because we’ve been working with bear
experts for so long their jargon just rubbed off on us. But, for the sake
Internet searches and overall name recognition, "bear proof" works just fine.
Fabricating bear proof trash cans and food storage lockers was a natural
transition for us as a company. We’ve been making heavy-duty steel
enclosures at our facilities for over 20 years and have vast knowledge and
experience dealing with material strengths, corrosion resistance and
superior finishes. You see, we don’t just buy and sell bear proof
products…we create them. Designing and making our first bear proof
containers was a unique challenge for us, not in a fabrication sense but in

Many years ago when we recognized the market for bear proof enclosures it
was necessary to use the expertise of two diverse disciplines. One was what
we already possessed, a successful metal fabrication company with resources
to explore a new industry and the other was wildlife biologists and bear
experts with a vision to make things better by removing attractants. When
these two disciplines united, BearSaver was born.

Studies show that clip carts don’t consistently get re-latched and screw
lids don’t always get replaced.
Unfortunately, this results in open, unprotected
containers that bears can and will take advantage of!!!
Alaska Dept Fish and Game did a pilot program over a 2-year span using
clip-type carts. The result of their study was that the containers were not
used properly either because people in
BearSaver is a seasoned fabricator with resources to manufacture or modify
any type of metal or plastic container…. but we do so only if it makes
sense. The “BearSaver difference” is what we’ve learned from our research,
experience and our ability to listen to what the real experts have to say.
Over the years, BearSaver has studied many products claiming to be
bear-resistant. Take the residential curbside carts for example. We could
make carts that “clip” shut using thumb clips attached to cables, or we
could offer the low cost “screw top” containers. Both of these containers
are much easier to fabricate than containers with our patented push-to-close
latching systems but, we choose not to offer these products and here’s why:
general did not re-latch them or the clips failed in service. Bottom line:
All lids and doors must be self-latching.
Passing an endurance test with live bears in a controlled
environment where latches will be properly secured is a much
different scenario from the real world. The weakness with clip-carts
and screw tops is the human factor – these products are difficult to
use and frequently users do not take the necessary steps to secure
the lid after each use.
